SUMMARY

A strapping all-rounder, Johnny Douglas, captained the English cricket team and also represented England as a boxer at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Interestingly, he bagged gold in the Middleweight event. On the cricketing field, Douglas was an accurate pacer and a steady batsman.

After establishing himself in the English team, he led the side eighteen times with a creditable eight wins under his belt. Overall, he made 962 runs and took 45 wickets in 23 Tests before retirement. His first-class record of 24531 runs, 1893 wickets and 365 catches, paints a better picture about his versatility.
